GrandMother

Esmeralda created and composed GrandMother; a contemporary a capella choral piece that transforms the real memories and experiences of grandmothers into song. Esmeralda interviews grandmothers across the world and writes contemporary choral music inspired by their memories and personalities. The piece is written for an a capella choir of women of all ages and is performed with the participating grandmothers on stage.

The project began in Florida and developed during a three day residency at Women of the World Festival 2018 at Southbank Centre. The project continued when she was appointed as Associated Artist at the The Old Church, Stoke Newington, where she continued to compose the pieces and created a large community choir of over 60 female singers for a work in progress show and live recording. She was invited to perform her piece at Union Chapel with all interviewed grandmothers present.
