Holland Baroque
London Community Gospel Choir

Holland Baroque is convinced that baroque “can be found everywhere”. You just have to know where to look. That is why the orchestra began its search for unique versions of work by Händel. They eventually found it in the London Community Gospel Choir (LCGC).

As unusual as a collaboration between a gospel choir and a baroque orchestra may seem it is very contemporary. “Gospel fits very well with the polyphony in music from the Baroque era, and many themes – songs and music about faith or suffering  – are often the same,” explain Holland Baroque founders Tineke and Judith Steenbrink. Tonight you can hear the first results of their collaboration, a genuine première featuring a Gospel choir in Händel and a baroque orchestra with swing. Let yourself be blown away by a blast of musical diversity. Or, as Bazil Meade says: “Go hard or go home – submerse yourself completely, or just stay home”.

Esmeralda run all London rehearsals and conducts the performance at Door Biennale Amsterdam.
